ABSTRACT

Performance management is undergoing significant and lasting change. Organizations are demanding an end to tedious, low-value approaches and replacing them with simpler strategies that actually increase performance. However, to design an approach to performance management that positively impacts performance, several fundamental shifts are needed in how we think about and implement it. These shifts entail moving performance management from a burdensome and time-consuming chore to a driver of high performance and engagement. This chapter summarizes the key shifts that are needed and projects potential future trends that will shape the landscape of performance management.
