ABSTRACT

One-dimensional assemblies of magnetic nanoparticles are of great interest from both theoretical and experimental viewpoints. Indeed, new collective physical properties are expected from such organizations, which may lead to innovations especially in the field of life sciences. In this chapter, we first give an overview of the dipolar effects expected to occur in nanoparticle assemblies on the basis of numerical simulation results. Then various assembly strategies are reviewed, as well as some possible resulting applications.
