ABSTRACT

Set in the early 1930s, the patrons of the Kit Kat Club and others who lived in Berlin were very much influenced by the economic conditions of the time. After World War I, the allied countries had asked Germany to make large reparation payments to compensate the allied countries for lost lives and property from the war. The Weimar government chose to pay back Great Britain and France in part by printing massive amounts of their currency. 1 That caused a bout of hyperinflation, unfortunately. We can see the consequences when we compare the value of the German mark to the U.S. dollar. 2
