Rosemary sings that she would be happy to be in a marriage where she is the homemaker while her husband “goes onward and upward.” The musical is based on a 1952 book – and in the 1940s and 1950s, a much larger percentage of women stayed at home (90% in 1950 compared to 29% in 2012). 1
