ABSTRACT

In the Heights, the first musical that Lin-Manuel Miranda brought to Broadway, has economic themes woven throughout the story. It is set in the early 2000s in Washington Heights, a neighborhood in northern Manhattan – just north of Harlem. The musical tracks a few days in the life of Usnavi, Benny, Vanessa, Nina, Abuela, and others as they struggle with choices about their careers, their schooling, where to live, whether to pursue their dreams, and more.
