ABSTRACT

In a musical based on a true story, a strike is being called at a Ford Motors plant in Dagenham, U.K., which is a suburb of London. Female sewing machinists, however, were classified as working a category B job whereas men were paid as if it were a category C job – which paid 15% more. 1 There was a three-week strike until the issue was resolved. Assuming men and women were equally productive, this seems to be a clear case of economic discrimination.
