ABSTRACT

Sunset Boulevard presents the story of Norma Desmond. She was a famous silent movie actress, but when talking movies were created, Norma’s skill set was no longer in demand. This is a classic case of creative destruction, where a new innovative good, talking movies, replaced an inferior one. This made the world better off, as customers much preferred talking movies to silent movies. With that change, however, the silent film industry was destroyed. Many careers were also destoryed, including Norma Desmond’s.
