ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to make the beginning of group sessions much easier, especially for newly formed groups. Using the following games, group members can gradually become closer to and more familiar with each other. The key rule is that only the person holding the stone is allowed to speak: interruptions by other group members are forbidden. Individual players take it in turn to sit on the chair and talk about their expectations with regard to the forthcoming group session. The group leader has a ball which she throws to another player while saying her own name. The group stands in a circle. The players get together in pairs. They then confide to each other a personal detail that is not generally known to the rest of the group or to many other people. The group leader collects all of the photographs and puts each one into an identical envelope.
