ABSTRACT
Many teenagers are extremely cruel, as the quotes illustrate, with not an ounce of empathy. We know, for example, that cyberbullying and texts can be so hurtful that teenagers can end up feeling suicidal. In younger teen boys toughness is such a status card, and so weakness and vulnerability in others often gets attacked as they may see in others what they hate in themselves. Later on the cruelty tends to diminish as status moves from toughness to coolness.
