ABSTRACT

So this exercise, development and discussion are about the teenager having their anger heard and validated. It provides the teenager with an opportunity to make connections between past and present and which life events have led to them being so angry today. This important reflective process is key for those stress regulatory systems to be established in the teenager’s brain. The exercise is also about helping teenagers to know when their anger is adaptive and when it is maladaptive. When feelings of anger are reflected on in this way, rather than just discharged, major positive changes occur in terms of brain as well as mind.
