ABSTRACT

Typically, aversion to oral eating & drinking & swallowing (EDS) is defined by the child’s excessive or extreme and consistently negative reaction to requests to eat and/or drink either any oral foods or such a significant number of oral foods that the range of their intake would not support adequate nutrition on its own (in the case of tastes), or does not reflect their peers’ eating and drinking development (as in the case of textures). It is important to remember that all children and adults have food dislikes and this reflects normal behaviour. It becomes aversive when an impact or potential impact on the child’s health and/or nutrition results.
