ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the test cases the moral code has to pass. The test cases define the scope of the project. The test cases also stipulate the moral knowledge required by the ‘ethical robot’ prototype. Test cases are divided into specific norm tests (Speeding Camera, Bar Robot, Drone and Safe Haven); reasonable person tests relating to needs (Postal Rescue, Spacesuit Breach, Hab Malfunction, Cave, Hospital, Switch, Footbridge, Transmitter Room and Swerve); reasonable person tests relating to fairness and autonomy (Dive Boat, Landlord, Gold Mine, The Rocks, Viking at the Door and Mars Rescue.); moral variation cases (Switch and The Rocks); and a patient appeal case (Amusement Ride).
