ABSTRACT

In the sections that follow we describe techniques and approaches which

we have used with families. In some sections we have included interactive

handouts for parents, which we would usually give them to read and

complete the week before we plan to discuss the topic. This enables parents

to think about the issues and how they aff ect their child, as well as to consider

some practical ideas to help them. We have found that parents may agree or

disagree with what is written and this stimulates them to explore the topic

with us. Sometimes parents come to the session having already tried out

some of the suggestions.
