ABSTRACT

This chapter looks more specifically at what activities to do and the information needed to pick up on some of the ideas and make them happen. The dictionary defines need as 'that which is required or desired'. Activities that are desired are those in which residents express an interest a desire to undertake. But humans are more than physical beings – there are a number of other human needs, which can be combined together to give 10 areas of activity need: Physical needs, Intellectual needs, Creative needs, Social needs, Sensory needs, Spiritual needs, Cultural needs, Emotional needs, and Educational and Employment needs. If activities can be included from each of the 10 areas of need within the activity programme, then many of the residents' needs will be met. The frequency with which the type of activity is offered will be based on the resident group, and on how often they desire that type of activity.
