ABSTRACT

Children who fail to learn to talk because of a learning disability will also benefit from these techniques until the time they start talking. It is possible to identify children who are at risk of autistic spectrum diagnosis and using the Not Just Talking prevention techniques will ensure that these children are better able to communicate and live lives that are more fulfilled as a result. It is also appropriate to use these with older children who are functioning at a pre-three-year-old level with regard to their non-verbal communication development. There is a relatively small window in which it is possible for parents to promote the acquisition of non-verbal skills in their children. Parents who promote these skills will avoid the consequences of having a child who develops social, emotional and behavioural difficulties and is unable to benefit from her education.
