ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the training opportunities that exist for people to work with children's non-verbal communication development difficulties. The latter group are able to then use this training with the support of the Not Just Talking parent books, to help parents promote these skills. Assessment training is only available to those professionals who are already trained to do assessments. To undertake the Not Just Talking assessment training, participants need to have had some prior training and experience in assessing children's developmental problems. It also forms the basis of the prevention training programme currently offered by Not Just Talking. Not Just Talking can train parents, midwives, paediatric nurses, health visitors, social workers and any other early year’s workers to identify difficulties and promote the missing skills in babies and toddlers. When the Not Just Talking Resources become available from Speechmark Ltd, schools and health teams will be able to purchase these and start the intervention programme.
