ABSTRACT

The specific terminology used in bills will differ from bill to bill. The terminology used in a water bill will not be used in your phone bill, and the same goes for all combinations of bills.

Despite this, you will notice some similar terms used in all bills, ‘account number’ is one such term. Each party or company that you receive a bill from will hold your details on their computers. To save them time in finding your details should you ever need to contact them, they can just enter your account number into their computer and your details (address and so on), will come up on their computer monitor. It is very important to remember that every party, organisation or company who send you bills, all have their own individual account number for you. For example, your council tax account number will not be the same as your mobile phone account number.
