ABSTRACT

It is important for group leaders to assess their groups to help determine the efficacy of the various components, such as the methods used for dissemination, group members’ perceptions of the leader, and other indices of learning and satisfaction. The information derived from assessment can be used as a part of the evaluation of the group’s efficacy. Chapter 4 presents a rationale for planning assessment and evaluation, and descriptions and examples of assessment measures and techniques.

Psychoeducational groups can make effective use of experiential activities when these are used to enhance the learning and understanding of the material, and to individualize these for group members. Presented are the guidelines, selection, and facilitation strategies that will assist group leaders to capitalize on the strengths of such activities.
