ABSTRACT

The topic of rotating machinery vibration is a major component of the author's specialization. The dynamic characteristics of radial bearings is perhaps the most important factor in designing rotating machinery that is rotor dynamically well engineered. Accordingly, this chapter provides a comprehensive treatment of the vibration characteristics of bearings, with special attention devoted to the vibration characteristics of (1) liquid-lubricated fluid-film bearings, (2) squeeze-film dampers, (3) rolling element bearings, (4) hydrostatic bearings, and (5) compliant surface bearings.
