ABSTRACT

Education brings in a multitude of opportunities in the economic, political, scientific and spiritual fields which can be used to help build a responsible society. This chapter discusses the role of religious values and ethical principles, the scientific temper, spirituality and healthful ways of living become important. The general impression that the spirit of science is opposed to that of ethics and spirituality is both unfortunate and untrue. The basis of both science and spirituality is to construct a reasoned argument of nature and ideal ways of life. Spirituality is a strong feature of the Indian mind, but India saw from the very beginning both in times of prosperity and decline that the ideal way of living would need a judicious combination of both material and spiritual values. Both science and spirituality are quests for a better life and that includes all creative experiences whether it is a scientific invention or painting or construction of a good building.
