ABSTRACT

In meetings with students, parents, faculty, other campus administrators, and central office personnel, leaders are expected to keep in formation confidential that others do not need to know. As school leaders, students, parents, and faculty members share very personal concerns regarding their lives. They trust to keep this information confidential. Some people share confidential information as a way to build a bond with another; however, this strategy backfires and results in destroying trust with many people. Moreover, by sharing confidential information reader may be breaking the law. Individuals' privacy rights are protected by federal and state statutes and professional ethical standards. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that governs many educators' actions regarding student confidentiality. Maintaining high standards of confidentiality will help reader build trust and be a good role model for other professionals.
