ABSTRACT

Dealing with the past can be challenging; generally, people do not like endings. In fact, many leaders do not manage the organizational endings well because they typically involve a change in relationships and in routines. For a leader concerned with boosting trust, learning to acknowledge the past is essential to bringing closure and then moving forward. Leaders who are concerned about trust and relationships will recognize the potential problems inherent in dealing with the past. Sometimes, the resistance to change happens because the individuals do not acknowledge what has ended. When listening to the perceived losses, refrain from the responding with all the positives about the change. The key to helping people deal with the past is to accept where they are and to listen to their thoughts. Most people move forward when they can make peace with the past.
