ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book describes the philosophy of education. It provides a philosophical framework of paradigm shift in education influenced by the participatory paradigm, systems thinking and complexity theory. The book also provides a critical review of theories and principles in learning from a psychological perspective. It highlights motivational, socio-cultural and humanistic theories of learning that have potential relevance to coaching. The book includes the concepts of learning power, enquiry- and problem-based learning and discusses different models of education and situates coaching psychology in a learning-centred model. It addresses key definitions and theories of coaching psychology, which are grounded in the psychology of learning. The book focuses on a journey of empirical enquiry of coaching psychology and enquiry-based learning in the context of secondary education.
