ABSTRACT

Getting and staying pregnant can be stressful and unnerving and that can last throughout a pregnancy, affect our birth, or even early parenthood where welcoming a new baby can coexist with mourning a loss. If we are at risk of further miscarriages, doctor can advise on further tests to establish what might be causing pregnancy loss, they may also recommend additional treatment and counselling. It may be that in the case of high-risk pregnancies we will need regular monitoring in hospital. While there are no guarantees that future pregnancies may end in loss, there are some things we can do to reduce our chances of pregnancy loss and enjoy a healthy pregnancy. One of the strange, superstitious beliefs that can come with a pregnancy and newborn is a worry that we somehow caused previous pregnancy loss because we did not care enough about our baby, or that in loving the one we currently have are somehow disloyal.
