ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on ways to recover after loss. Recovery is often discussed as something that is inspirational and dramatic. There is a crisis, we move past it, and life is good again. It allows for unhappy times, but not too many of them, and certainly not long term. If pregnancy loss was particularly distressing it may take months or years to recover, and we may still find our self troubled by aspects of our loss at unexpected moments. If we have recurrent miscarriages or infertility then we are unlikely to have just one loss to get over, instead there will be many losses and subsequent difficult life decisions to make. While we may need time to rest and come to terms with our loss, there will be things we need to do as part of daily life. That may include caring for existing children and pets, going to work, housework and daily chores, personal care, and socializing.
