ABSTRACT

When we learn a new skill we initially focus on developing our understanding of the skill and using it accurately (getting it right). In the anger management programme one of the skills covered is looking at a situation from another perspective. Initially pupils are taught that there are often multiple perspectives to a situation. They practise identifying perspectives in different situations. As the skill develops they move on to the second stage of learning. This involves becoming more fluent. During this stage the pupil becomes more confident and quicker at identifying different perspectives. The next stage is to then apply the skill in new situations, with support (eg to apply the skill in a real classroom situation). Finally, when the skill is fully secure the pupil is able to automatically apply the skill in new situations without any support.
