Play activity with the farm, farm animals and playmat. The child has concentrated for several minutes on lining all the animals up in a row. You want to teach some action words. Typical commentary: 'That's a lovely long line. Now shall we put them in the field? Here's a cow-shall we put it in there? Here's another cow for you - make it walk into the field. Here's another cow. And here comes a horse. Make him run into the field. I'll walk this horse in. Here comes the farmer. He wants to feed the animals.'
Child: 'I got bus.' Adult, 'Yes, you've got a bus.' This shows the child he has been understood, starts to build a conversation and also models the correct sentence form.
