ABSTRACT

People are usually fully involved in the mind’s processes rather than stepping back and being more of an observer of their thinking and feeling. People will now familiarise themselves more with this non-mindful mind of theirs. This chapter focuses on an exercise to watching their mind. People need to simply sit for at least 2 minutes and try to be aware where their attention goes and what their mind is thinking. In a way this is already an exercise in Mindfulness, because people are asked to observe what their mind is doing and they are asked to write it down afterwards. Non-mindfulness is an everyday occurrence. It just happens because that’s how people's mind usually operates – it responds to stimuli by running the most appropriate learned response and the action sequences. Mindfulness is a completely different way of approaching problems and of approaching the mind.
