ABSTRACT
An angry father grumbles at the teacher who has just sent his son home for some outrageous behaviour. ‘He can’t help it, you know. It’s his condition!’ A support worker was heard saying to some other children in the playground, ‘Leave him alone. He can’t help it.’ Teenagers can often be seen making that gesture of twisting one finger against the temple, a universal symbol meaning ‘not right in the head’.
