ABSTRACT

The quality of social relationships is immediately dependent on the power structure existing within a group. It is obvious that the power structure tends to be most unbalanced where there are young or very young people who belong to a group or join a group as newcomers. The foundations for self-confidence and independence are laid during infancy. A requirement for the development of autonomy is the feeling of being accepted, and of belonging to a group community. Safety and security provide the courage for individual development. The development of autonomy also requires opportunities for creating distance while being close. The fact that, sometimes, someone simply wants to be left alone in order to be able to approach others with renewed strength later on should be respected. The chapter includes 20 games to strengthen a self-confident attitude in children, to signal to them that they are important.
