ABSTRACT

In our daily life we all move through different presentations of self. These are not different personalities but rather aspects of ourselves that become more or less foreground depending on what is happening or who we are with. For example, being with one person might bring out a more intelligent self-state whilst being with another might activate a false or inauthentic way of being in the world. Hence we might say something like ‘I hate myself when I am with X, I feel so boring and dull. I don’t feel like that when I’m with anyone else’, or ‘I love being with X. She makes me feel really good about myself.’
