ABSTRACT

Fear of intimacy can lead to all forms of withdrawal, withholding, running away, which often bring abject misery to the people on the receiving end. Sometimes people are not aware that they have a fear of intimacy, or that they are moving into primitive flight mechanisms. This exercise is therefore designed to enable participants to consider whether they have a fear of intimacy, and if so what is fuelling it. It is hoped that participants can then develop more awareness of their flight reactions in personal relationships. From this they can learn to manage their fear in more creative ways and build up a wider range of relational resources and options.
