Developmental coordination disorder is a motor-based condition, as opposed to dyspraxia, which may have a primarily sensory base although there may be an overlapping profile.

• The child is usually of average or above average intelligence and there may be a degree of frustration in regard to the mismatch between their innate intelligence and their motor abilities or written output.
