ABSTRACT

As a teenager in Orange County, California, if you’re not playing sports, in school, or doing homework, you’re probably at the mall. I loved going to Nordstrom, where the beautiful fashions transported me to a world of savvy (literally, the name of one of the women’s departments). No longer was I an awkward teenage girl with braces. I was a modern woman bedecked in the most stunning new trends. A big part of shopping was fantasy. Let’s be real: I couldn’t afford many of these clothes on my allowance, but I loved going to the department store and the way it made me feel.
