ABSTRACT
In the first chapter I describe a trajectory of decentralization and its influence on project management. To do so, I discuss decentralization in the context of organizations, development teams, development methodologies, project management activities, and communication. The chapter explains how decentralization has made it possible for teams to move more quickly and self-organize. As well, the chapter explains the ways in which decentralization has shaped the work of project management and project communication in meaningful ways. Decentralization is an important context for participation as an exigence of communicating project work in today’s development teams.
