ABSTRACT

The client will need to keep up their efforts over the coming months, and this step will help them develop an action plan. The aim of the action plan will be to help the client to: recognise any early signs of the depression reoccurring, identify times in the future when they may be at risk of depression and continue to strengthen their new beliefs. During this step it is wise to reduce the frequency of sessions to alternate weeks, and then to every four weeks. This allows the client to get used to the idea of the therapy ending. Ask the client about their views concerning the plan to end therapy. The important thing is that the client understands the need to act early in the course of the illness, as this will mean less suffering and easier treatment. The signs and symptoms that make up the relapse signature may be non-specific, and therefore the client may not become depressed.
