ABSTRACT

Mr. NOVELLO is no lingering publisher; his appearance generally follows close at the heels of his prospectus: and, moreover, he performs with equal punctuality the promises he holds out.

Mr. Novello’s share in this publication adds to the reputation he has so well earned for discrimination and taste in his adaptations. He has not crowded the page with notes, or called more fingers into action than are essential to effect. He has, in a word, consulted the convenience of the performers, and thus rendered the publication generally useful, without departing from the composer’s score, or in any way interfering with his design; except, indeed, in cases where the reduction of the parts to a single instrument rendered some deviation imperatively necessary.
