ABSTRACT

Limbrick Wood Primary School is situated in a pocket of severe deprivation

in Coventry, with 42% free school meals. The emotional literacy scheme

was identified on the school development plan following a period in special

measures. In October 2003, emotional literacy was highlighted by OFSTED

as follows:

“Emotional Literacy is developed very effectively through the use of carefully

chosen stories to come to terms with difficult issues and feelings. This

programme is timetabled and linked very effectively to literacy. This new

strategy is proving very effective in allowing the pupils to come to terms with

problems and to resolve conflict.”
