ABSTRACT

Currently the picture for young people on the autism spectrum is not as positive as for the rest of the population. Fewer than one in four young people with autism continue their education beyond school (Ambitious about Autism, 2012); children with autism are disproportionately affected by both formal and illegal school exclusions (Ambitious about Autism, 2014) and young people with autism are particularly susceptible to bullying because of their difficulties in understanding social interactions (NAS, 2006).
