ABSTRACT

This section looks at preparing for employment, an area which is often difficult for young women on the autism spectrum. First of all, there are the problems which are common to a lot of young people: knowing which career path they would like to follow, knowing which job they are best suited for and getting their first job when competition is fierce. In addition, women on the autism spectrum may face additional difficulties when deciding on a job, applying for a job and maintaining employment, demonstrated by the fact that only one in four adults on the autism spectrum gain full-time employment (Ambitious about Autism, 2012).
