ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses a session that is aimed at helping group members apply all that has been learned to common everyday experience, and to use the techniques to cope with that experience. Taking part in social and leisure activities can present difficulties for many people. The experience of extreme anxiety may result in the person feeling that it is not worthwhile, as there is little or no pleasure for them in the event. An anxious person can feel trapped in small informal gatherings. If they do begin to feel panic coming on they will have the plan they worked out to deal with it. Remember, a panic attack will not do them any harm, they will feel relief when it is over and it is highly unlikely anyone will even notice. Having a plan to manage the difficulties will enable them to manage the situation effectively. People can obtain a seat near an exit if pop concerts are a problem.
