ABSTRACT
There are superb hand puppets for working with all groups of any age and often the most listless and non-communicative individuals will come alive when they see or hold a puppet. Puppets should never be imposed on people because some people need time to get used to playing with puppets again as they may think it is a childish activity. When drama group leaders are using masks they need to take care that people do not feel stifled or get 'lost' in their mask. People will need time to get used to working with these puppets and leaders may not have enough for everyone to have one each. With suitable caution puppets and masks can enhance their groupwork and stimulate people's creativity. It is important to have enough puppets for everyone to have one each and some left over so that people have a choice.
