ABSTRACT

The trust which results from the establishment of a firm, fair and friendly environment provides a foundation for more directive interventions. Users of Reality Therapy explore the quality worlds of clients. They ask especially what clients want to accomplish in the counselling process. Asking clients what they want from themselves is a very useful intervention. Some clients experience a burst of energy when they enter counselling. The 'W' of the WDEP system provides the foundation for other interventions. And though it should not be seen as merely a first step, it sometimes precedes the other procedures. It is also an element which emerges throughout the counselling process. The 'D' implies that the therapist discusses the overall direction of the clients' lives as well as what they are doing. The heart of Reality Therapy is the use of self-evaluation questions.
