ABSTRACT

It is worth considering the similarities with the 'homeless' aspect of the previously discussed family population, mainly the key principles of relating to and helping homeless people – the parallels with adults living on the streets or in various shelters, and the 'in-between' contradiction of a young mind inside an adult body that suffered awful life experiences and having to fend for themselves. Input from different agencies may well be appropriate and effective for a while. This is often limited by resources or complementary services being available. The 'next best' option is to combine and coordinate what is available in the area for homeless young people as a group, or for individuals if the former is not possible. co-location of physical and mental health input or, even better, 'one-stop shops' to cater for all needs and acknowledging that this will become increasingly difficult or desirable as young people settle into their new environment.
