ABSTRACT

What is on the board should be tailored specifically to the needs of the people

who access it and the activities or support that are provided. The message that

is conveyed is ‘welcome’ and this can be the first opportunity to make someone

feel valued when they enter an environment whether it is a day service, classroom

or youth club. The board should be accessible to the communication needs of

the people who use the setting. This can be achieved using an extensive range of

communication methods, including words, symbols, photos and objects to enable

people to understand it.
