ABSTRACT

Choice boards allow a person to indicate choices or request items by pointing to a

representation of their choice. How that choice is represented will depend on how

that person communicates. Boards can be tailored to individual communication

needs by using objects of reference, pictures, photographs, symbols or words (or

a combination), depending on the individual’s level of symbolic development. The

visual nature of a choice board relies less on a person’s memory and can support

people to initiate choice.
