ABSTRACT

The smiLE Therapy module assesses the skills of entering an office appropriately and greeting, and then leaving the office being polite, thanking and leaving appropriately. For students with learning and/or social communication difficulties, who have a significantly slower rate of learning, it may be best to split the module into two separate modules and focus on the entering skills only for the first module. Give the student the chance to demonstrate whether they have the knowledge of how to gain access or not. Those students who have consistently demonstrated that they have the necessary skills in the student role play can have a turn at role playing the MOPS, together with a practitioner role playing the student. If any student did not approach the right person in the office, as instructed, or approached the practitioner filming, skill number 3 on the checklist for the whole group, would be 'Go to the right person'.
