Here are my five favourite ideas to take the bag off your head and make your thoughts feel less scary and powerful.
Get a piece of card. Write down all the nasty things your
smirch says when it really wants to upset or scare you. ‘I

life, what would the title be? Maybe: You Are Not Good
Enough or Mad Family or maybe The Fat and Ugly Girl or
The Messed-up Thin Boy.Write the title on the back of the
card. Words and smirch lyrics have more power in your
head and when you try not to listen. The more you read
them, the less power they will have when they pop in your
head. When one of the thoughts pops into your head, you
can say ‘oh yes’ this is the mad family story or the tale of
the fat and ugly girl. Hide the card but read the thoughts as
much as you can. At first they will make you feel bad but
take some belly breaths and keep reading them as many
times a day as you can until they don’t have a big impact
on you.
