ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about the mechanics of taste and consider how gustatory experience is not all about the tongue or eating. It takes through the taste experiences likely to appeal to Sensory Beings, and then looks at the influence of how food behaves in the mouth on gustatory experience. The chapter considers how people experience taste differently and looks at how to go about introducing eating to a Sensory Being. Taste is not all about the tongue; other sensory systems inform what people think of experience of taste. Similarly, taste is not all about eating, so examine how all might safely go about facilitating gustatory experiences for someone who is not able to eat. Someone exploring eating without a good sense of smell backing up their experience may find it rather dull. Taste is not a sense reserved for exploration by those who can, or who may one day, eat.
