ABSTRACT

This chapter talks about the co-educated men and those educated in boys' schools. A boarding school ex-pupil complained of the homosexual tendencies of at least one of the staff. Fortunately there seems to have been no permanent warping as the ex-pupil is very happily married and has several children; he rated his schooldays as 'Very happy', the school atmosphere 'Very pleasant', his teachers 'Friendly' and 'Helpful' and considered that one or more of them were decidedly an influence for good. The difference between co-educated and single-sex educated boys is not statistically significant. The chapter presents the classification of comments made by female ex-pupils who said that one or more teachers had had a 'distinctly bad' influence on the development of their personalities. It is recalled that in the estimates on 'influence for bad' the co-educational schools were assessed more favourably than the girls' schools but that the difference was not quite statistically significant.
